Name: Selina Brightwing
Age: 18 (?)
Selina doesn't remember anything from before the day she found herself on the beach of New Avalon. She was born human, that much is clear, but the people of New Avalon are intent on making her something more. They believe she is the incarnation of a long-dead hero called "the Brightwing" -- and so do the Brightwing's long-lived enemies!

Selina is as changeable in temperment as the weather, pleasantly sunny one moment, hot and scalding the next, and chilly or foggy still the next. She can be incredibly intelligent about some things while being decidedly vapid about others. She is far from aware of her full potential, seeing as she doesn't even really know who she is. While she's desperate to learn who she is and find where she is from, part of her hopes to find a home in New Avalon.

Selina is an artist, a singer, and a writer. She's also a bit of a scaredy-cat, often being overly-cautious. Her mind has a tendency to wander, but she's tenacious about her passions.

Name: Rahkly Bard Phelan
Age: 19
Rahkly is greatly attracted to Selina -- but does he love her because he believes she is the Brightwing, and has always loved the legend, or does he really love the woman she is now? And if he loves Selina for herself and not her past, can he even be with her, if she turns out to be the Brightwing after all? What would happen if the reincarnation of the Skyblade, the Brightwing's consort, surfaced?

Rahkly's mother died when he was young, while giving birth to his brother. He and his brother, along with the Ganfer, have traveled the world, following his sire. There is little love lost between him and his father -- his father expects him to follow in his footsteps in more ways than one, and become a great warrior. Rahkly is a skilled fighter, but more of a pacifist at heart, despite his fiery temper. He'd rather be a bard. He and his family have recently settled in New Avalon, at Sylvia's request.

Name: Atsuka "Yellow Wolf"
Age: 19

ATSUKA is from Nihon (Japan). She is the last surviving waer of the "yellow wolf" breed, besides her grandmother. He clan was a ninja clan, for if they've got to hunt, why not make a little money on the side? She was trained as a ninja, but when Gunter came to her grandmother seeking training himself, the old woman saw how the path could lead one's soul to become warped if one walked it alone. When Gunter left with his family for New Avalon, the old woman decided to send her granddaughter along after, to get a little social education and meet others similar to her own kind (i.e., waer folk). Selina suspected Atsuka and Rahkly of a romantic past, since they had known eachother before. Though she has been with Rahk, Atsuka is more interested in Selina in that respect ....

Name: Bryan Bren Phelan
Age: 12
BRY is Rahk's bratty little bro. He envies his brother to unhealthy extremes, bouncing from hating to idolizing him and back again practically instantaneously. He wants to replace his brother in his father's eyes, but Gunter wont give him a second look most of the time. He also wishes he were waer, with all the powers. He wants to fly without having to use his home-made hover-board. He's a skater and a techno-geek, always inventing new things. He's into weaponry and sports, but he's too small to be effective, and fears he will never reach even his brother's height, much less his father's. Bryan desperately wants to be in the band, and is learning to play the saxophone and the piano, but like his sire, Rahk doesn't pay Bryan much attention (given his brattiness) and never gives him a chance prove himself ....

Name: Ziggy (Zigs)
Age: 18
ZIGGY is one of Rahk's best friends. He's the bass player, as well as co-songwriter and backup vocalist and keyboardist for "Oberon's Minstels", the band he's started with Rahk and Brom. Ziggy and Rahk haven't known eachother very long, but they "clicked" instantly -- it's plain they've been "shoulder-friends" in other lives. Gunter doesn't approve of the friendship; Ziggy is half-elven, of the koru variety elves, a breed often seen as untrustworthy, thanks to their sordid history. Gunter also thinks Ziggy is too wishy-washy, that he would never make a good warrior. Zigs has the added strikes against him of being a mage and a techno-geek, and at times he lives up to the koru stereotype of being conniving (he prefers to think of it as "cunning"). He's the great schemer of the group. Bryan has learned a lot about music and electronics from him, which only lowers him in Gunter's eyes .... Ziggy shares the status of beta male in "the pack" with Brom ....

Name: Brom Bunyan
Age: 19
BROM is a verj half-giant. Gunter approves of his friendship with Rahk, mistakenly thinking that, because of his size, Brom has the makings of a great warrior. But Brom is lovingly teased as "Gentle Brom"; it takes a lot to get him to fight. Although he cannot attain giant-height (20-25'), his earth power makes him a very hard obstacle to overcome. He plays a large variety of wind and brass instruments, most notably sax & trombone for the band. He's descended from Paul Bunyan, and has a blue ox descended from Babe as a familiar (this breed of ox is not that tall, the legends exaggerate, they're about the size of a small elephant, & blue refers to blue roan)...

Name: Paint
Age:14
PAINT is a "tagger", a graffiti artist. He's also a good drummer, but he has yet to join Oberon's Minstrels. He and his sister came to New Avalon from Kenya, along with several other waerbeasts, to find refuge from a political entanglement among their tribes. Bryan is his best friend, but Paint's getting into more adult interests now, and doesn't like to "play" so much, while Bryan is only just approaching adolescence ....

Name: Patch (Kiraka)
Age: 19
PATCH is the fashion designer in the group. She makes the costumes for "Oberon's Misntrels". She also dances. She and Duma are best friends, but she's also very close to her packmates (Rahk, Brom, Ziggy, Bry, Paint, Atsuka, and now Selina). She can't reconcile with the "African American Attitude", as she calls it, which puts a strain on her relationship with her brother (and thru it, a strain on Bryan and Paint's friendship, since Bryan thinks Patch makes a lot of sense) .... She is very calm and gentle for the most part. She is seen as the voice of reason, almost as wise as Sylvia, and often sought out for advice. In fact, she is Sylvia's "right hand".

Name: Duma
Age: 23
DUMA the wearcheetah is studying to be a healer. She remains close with her friends that came over with her from her native Kenya, but does not make an effort to socialize with others much in her new home. While she is Patch's best friend, she isn't a member of Rahk's pack -- well, not officially, anyway.

Name: Sylvia
Age: ?
SYLVIA is the High Lady (also known as the High Alpha Female) -- the leader of New Avalon. Few know exactly how old she is, but it is greatly (and correctly) assumed that she is from sometime during the Bronze Age. She was made a Firstborn by a tree dryad whose tree housed the den her mother chose. So many stories are told of her exploits under different guises, as she lived many lives within the one she's had, that no one is really sure anymore which ones are true and which are just myths. She has encountered Selina and her packmates in many of their past lives (still just in the one life of hers). Could she actually be the first mother Selina ever had? (It is widely conjectured that she is grooming Selina to take over so that she can finally put an end to her long life.) Some question her motives -- why exactly has she gone through all this trouble to create New Avalon? Is she raising an army? Probably the only person who knows her well enough to tell is the Ganfer. It is plain that they are lovers of sorts, but it is also obvious that they have spent as much time apart as together, and have taken other lovers, not because of any animosity, but rather from the meandering of their individual paths ....

Name: The Ganfer
Age: ?
THE GANFER was the longtime clan patriarch of the Phelan family (not that it mattered much, since they were more of a matriarchal society). He is the unofficial High Lord or High Alpha Male of Avalon, and is seen as Sylvia's consort, but no one speaks of it to his face. He's known to all as Grandfather (Ganfer), even to those who are not his descendants (Hel, he's so old that no one really knows for sure that he's not related to them, somewhere down the line.) He, like Sylvia, can trace his origin (and we're NOT talking family tree) to the Bronze age. At one point he led a band of Fianna into the Germanic and Gaul regions of the European mainland. It was at this time that Ganfer met Sylvia, and there began a life-LOOOONG friendship. Ganfer did sire a child within the last hundred years: Faelyn, Rahkly's grandmother. (He and Sylvia, as far as anyone knows -- since they won't say -- have never had children together.) He took in Rahkly's sire back during WWII, when the rest of the boy's family had been killed by the nazis.

Name: Eithne Phelan (Deceased)
Age: 32, at death (11 yrs since death at start of story, so 43 now)
EITHNE was a gentle, frail, loving creature, but she could be fierce when protecting her loved ones. Though she was human, she carried the Trait from her father, and that made her into a first-class healer and seer. She brought out the soft side of Rahkly's sire, Gunter. When Brian was due, her village was attacked, and many were injured, including Eithne herself. Eithne fought anyway, then healed the other wounded before going into labor -- and before healing herself. She died giving birth. She stays with her family as a spirit. Rahkly sees and speak to her often, but Bryan and Gunter (who is not very spiritual and frowned on magic even before it killed his beloved, as he sees it) have closed their minds to the point where they are unable to see or hear her ....

Name: Gunter Meister Rudolph
Age: 65 (looks about 30)
When GUNTER was 7 years old, his family was ratted out by some neighbors for harboring Jews, as well as accused of witchcraft. The entire family was killed in a raid, save him. Friends of the family, members of the same group of "freedom fighters" as his parents were apart of, heard about the incident, and checked the ruins for survivors. They shipped him off to the Phelan family. He was already a grown man when Eithne was born, but the waerfolk aging process slows dramatically when they reach adulthood, so are still considered "young" even in their 150's. Eithne loved him all her life, but he saw her as little more than a little sister at best, and a nuisance most of the time, for nearly two-thirds of her life. Then one Ostara the clan decided the great rite needed to be performed in the literal (it's a fertility rite, for those who aren't pagan), in order to restore the crop fields to an acceptable state. It was decided that Eithne and Gunter were the best candidates. Being loyal to the family, Gunter felt it his duty to comply. They became avatars for the great rite, and conceived Rahkly. As the night wore on, Gunter discovered the woman Eithne had become. He began to feel for her what she had felt for him. It wasn't instantaneous, but by the time she was ready to birth Rahk, they were handfasted. Before they were 'fatsed though, someone challenged Gunter for Eithne's hand. His rival (illegally) used silver and wolfsbane tipped claws against him in the fight, which resulted in the scars on his cheek. In the waer world, it is not unusual for the husband to take the wife's name, or both to combine their names, but since Gunter was the last of his line, he kept his name as it was. Since the clan was matriarchal, Rahk remained Phelan, with the intent that he could choose which name he wanted at his first "change". He chose to remain Phelan, though it hurt his sire deeply. His brother Bryan has yet to change, but it's a given, with how he idolizes Gunter and all, that he will become a "Rudolph" (Red wolf). As soon as Gunter was old enough to hold a sword he began weapons training, hoping that he could prevent what had happened to his family from ever happening again. He was devastated when Eithne died, having failed to maintain his vow. He resolved to train harder, & dragged his children all over the world to learn from the masters. Ganfer tagged along to keep him out of trouble. When Sylvia opened the New Avalon Academy, she offered Gunter a position as Weapons Master. He declined at first, but when Rahk informed him that he was enrolling, he saw it as a bonding opportunity. His pupils have nicknamed him "Fenris", but would never say it to his face...

Name: Midnight
Age: 5 years old, but in rabbit years she is a young adult, like Selina. (Brownies, like waerfolk, live for a few hundred years but mature at a the mortal rate until adulthood.)
Midnight is Selina's rabbit familiar. She's also a Brownie. No, she's not a girl-scout-in-training or a dessert item (well, not the chocolate kind anyway). Brownies are anthropomorphisized small animals (aka, they're birds and rodents that can become human-like, but aren't part human). She is known as the Spyder-slayer, because she hunts down and kills spiders that are spies for the Arachne Sisters. She also eats them. Her best friends are Hooj-the-Trickster-son-of-Oestre (Hooj for short), who is her brother as well as Rahkly's familiar, and Piicha, Atsuka's rabbit-familiar (and Midnight's boyfriend? ^_~)
