'shipper, n. Short for "relationshipper", a term referring to someone who is a professed fan of a relationship in a work of fiction, in the sense that they enjoy the characters' chemistry and want to see them "together". They will often read and write fanfiction to that effect. For obvious reasons, the shipper phenomenon is sometimes associated, tongue-in-cheek, with nautical references and puns, such as "canon" (the original work from which the fandom is derived) sinking a "ship" (relationship) as if it were a cannon.
